Oh my goodness! An official Warhawk Tournament sponsered by Sony and the Global Gaming League? Well it's true! Yes indeed it is.
As for now, there is no price yet named, but you can sign up now until June 15th. The actual competition begins May 13th and runs through July 15th. (The Rules say July 15th)
You must be a registered citizen of the US, must be 13 of age by date of registering and you must have a team.
I highly suggest reading all the rules, as there are many. There are rules about how matches are scheduled. Such as, if you challenge another team, you must propose three different days/times. If the team declines, they have to propose their own dates/times, or else they will be docked points.
There are certain rules that must be used for each game, certain maps (later in the article) you are allowed to use and if you lag or cheat, or even exploit glitches/bugs, you can be kicked off the Tournament. If you're unsure, ask an Admin or someone of the sorts.
You must also comply with allowing your full name, your address - only city and state - and your voice and game name to be used if you happen to win. Any prizes must be distributed to each team member by your own means, if money is involved, the registered team leader will recieve the check and must distribute accordingly.
Enjoy the Tournament! I hope to form my own team, and if so, I hope we at least get far!
Yeah, this is late, by 11 days, but hey, life is hectic over Spring Break.
Anyways, we've known that there were going to be 2 new Game Modes in an upcoming patch, maybe V1.4, along with Minimum Ranks for games. Let's see, well, this is like a Preview of Broken Mirror with Dylan Jobe on the phone.
So this is going to be a video segment, and it's quite nice, he says he can't tell us about the game modes, but he says they will push this game so much farther, if you don't care for the rest, it's around the 5 minute mark.
This is a hard place to start, but what the heck, I'll start at the beginning or where it all began. Well, I purchased Broken Mirror as soon as it came out and downloaded it and installed it and got the game up.
The first map I happened to get into, Olsavik Village. Oh. My. Goodness. This has got to be the best small layout of all, I love this place. Every building, I mean every building in this Village is accessible to all Troops. You can climb up the broken walls, the broken stairs, the intact stairs, go through doors, pick up weapon, climb on top to obtain Binocluars and reign havock on all below and each building is unique in its own way.
What's even cooler is that there's this GIGANTIC crevice surrounding Olsavik Village, and the Warhawk and Nemesis can go clear down to the bottom, but while progressing down, the fog gets thicker, until you hit the bottom, where you sort of see an outline of everything. Really great stuff. Two TOW's are located under, I wouldn't call them bridges, but bridges made out of the map itself, out of snow? Anyways, there's also Health and Chaff, oh and Swarm Missiles.
There are really nice hallow-esque places. There is this really nicely sized tunnel system, and by "nicely sized," I of course mean that you could fit every vehicle more than twice in a vertical position to reach the top. There are also some nice tunnels for the roads in the mountains, really great.
Oh yeah, I forgot to mention snow. Although it's flawed. You can move your screen in any direction and the snow still falls from the same direction, move into a building and it still falls. The snow really dissapointed me, it's only on your screen and is really poorly done.
THE APC
Wow, how did I manage to make the APC last? After playing some DM's in Olsavik Village, I decided to test out how large this "large map" really was. I found out it was quite large! I also found out Warhawk's are awesome in Vaporfield Glacier, so nice and big. But besides that, I found myself staring at an APC.
My first reaction was, "OH YEAH I FORGOT ABOUT THE APC! THIS IS SO AWESOME, I'M GOING TO RIDE IT!" Immature? No, not at all, this APC is great. I love both the Eucadian and Chernovan APC's, but the Chernovan's "honk" sounds like a grabage truck's horn, or a semi's horn. Amazingly awesome!
I love the Boost, as soon as I found out double tapping R2 and holding down until I felt like it, I immediately used it. I even abused it! I love the E-POD as well. Perfect for those pesky Warhawk flies. Deploy it and watch the Warhawk flies go in and die. The E-POD is nice though because if you deploy it on the road, you can drive down and the E-POD is a full sphere and the Warhawk n00bs will run into them!
Did you think to yourself, WTF, when you saw the official server names on Warhawk? Many people did.
Here's the lowdown for ya, courtesy of Dylan Jobe and the Game Designer:
By now you've probably noticed that we've changed the way we name our official Warhawk servers.
We did this for two reasons: first, to make it more clear which servers are "friendly" to which types of players; and second, to give you more options for what kinds of games to play -- and rules to play by -- while still having the benefits of a high-performance SONY-hosted server.
This guide will explain in more detail how the new setup works.
SERVER TYPES
If you're new to Warhawk, look for servers with "NEWBIE" in the name, such as "US-NEWBIE_Large1". These servers are rank-limited to Sergeant and below, and have no friendly fire.
If you're familiar with the game and just looking for a quick match, look for servers with "Casual" in the name, such as "US-Casual_TDM1". These servers are what you're probably used to: no friendly fire, and team switching is allowed (with balance enforced).
If you're a hardcore player looking to roll with your friends or clan and play a tough, serious match, or if you're one of our long-time vets who remembers the days of team damage and quick respawns, then "Pro" servers such as "US-Pro_TDM1" are definitely for you. These servers have friendly fire enabled and 3-second respawns. Team switching is allowed, and balance is enforced, but teams are not re-randomized between rounds, so once you get your crew together, you'll stay together.
PLAYLISTS
Casual and Pro servers are split out into multiple playlists for the various game modes. A "DM" in the name indicates Deathmatch; for example, "US-Pro-DM1". This is a server that plays nothing but Deathmatch games.
A "TDM" in the name indicates Team Deathmatch, such as "US-Pro-TDM1". Again, this is all Team Deathmatch, all the time.
A "CTF" in the name indicates Capture the Flag, and a "ZNS" indicates Zones. You can probably see the pattern emerging here.
The unique one is "Mix", such as "US-Pro_Mix-A1" or "US-Pro_Mix-B1". These are similar to the previous "Vari" servers and host multiple gametypes. In "Mix-A" servers you've got large maps in CTF and ZNS. In "Mix-B" servers you've got medium and small maps running TDM and CTF.
The number in a playlist is just there so that servers have unique names. It lets you easily tell your friends *which* CTF server you're in. It does *not* mean there are different playlists. So for example, "US-Pro_DM1" and "US-Pro_DM2" are both running the exact same playlist and ruleset.
While surfing the Warhawk Forums, I ran upon a thread where a user had uploaded a Vaporfield Glacier Map Layout, how kind. This seems to be taken from a camera and zoomed in on Tundra Assault.
Check out how huge it is!
Oh, and by the way, the APC is amazing and the map is humongous.
Just to let any who come on to TheVGS, I'm installing the Booster Pack for Warhawk, and I should have a review on Saturday, if I don't, forgive me for I have to waste my day tomorrow working again.
Yes! Operation: Broken Mirror for Warhawk is live! Live since 11:20pm PST. I am currently downloading it and am eargerly awaiting for it to install.
Just one thing, there seems to be tax on a lot of Playstation Store items now. Instead of paying $7.99, I payed $8.50 - that's $0.51 tax. I guess taxes are a big thing right now. Ah well, all is good.
Check out this Preview of Operation: Broken Mirror, which is set out to release for Warhawk before the night ends. Let's hope everyone else is picking it up! Hopefully there will be a review soon!
My late article has nothing to do with me coming on late, but yes, V1.31 is up for Warhawk.
It's about a 10 minute download, not too long, really simple, all it did was allow Team Switching, Team Randomization and took away Unlimited Score for all servers.
Oh my goodness! What is V1.31 you might ask? Well, you remember how Team Switching was back? Well, Dylan and crew has decided that how it ended up being wasn't as planned, and was craptastic.
So, there will be a server patch, and a client patch, which you will have to download, and will hopefully reach us before Operation: Broken Mirror hits us.
Also, this will be happening April 15, a Tuesday.
"The v1.31 patch is focused on fixing the team-switch mistake -- reinstating the Team-Switching, Team-Randomization, *and* Team-Roster-Balance server options.
In addition, we are removing the "unlimited score" option from the Game Options screen. This was an open invitation to padding as many of you correctly pointed out here on the forums.
I want to extend my apologies for this crap-tastic inconvenience and I thank you all in advance for your patience this week while we perform our final testing on the v1.31 patch."
The V1.3 Update did not allow players to switch teams, this was a bad choice and they are fixing it from their side, no need for Client Updates. There will still be the option to have "No Team-Switching" in Custom Games though.
Yes, Warhawk V1.3 is now live and you can download it now.
Remember, this brings the new Paint Jobs and Insignias, new VOIP options, Home support, the Wrench and Bio-Generator. Enjoy this awesome new patch until it gets patched. (kidding)
Yes, finally Dylan has updated us on the Broken Mirror Booster Pack!
And boy oh boy does he have an update for us!
"Operation: Broken Mirror has gone "gold" and will be available in the Playstation Store on April, 17th for $7.99 !!"
So that's great news for us. Here's the trailer:
Here's a summary of what's to expect in Broken Mirror:
* 10 layouts on a brand new winter battlefield, Vaporfield Glacier. * 2 new Armored Personnel Carriers (Chernovan and Eucadian styles). * 10 bonus layouts for battlefields from the original game so that you can play with the APCs.
Dylan tells us that yes, it is a Snow Level just like everyone had requested and no, a Lava Level is NOT next. Could this be a hint? Hmm. . .
"Vaporfield Glacier is a vast, windswept valley filled with huge chunks of glacial ice, raised highways, deep chasms, with military bases and research facilities scattered around the frigid landscape. At the heart of the battlefield lies Olsavik Village, a small abandoned town whose people have long since left their homes after years of bloody conflict in the Eucadian War."
"So…we took a different approach with Vaporfield Glacier. The naked battlefield is in-fact larger that Omega Dawn. However, we decided to include twice as many layouts so that we could provide players with more variety in small and medium maps. We also included something else that our community has been requesting for quite sometime - asymmetrical layouts."
Well, there are 10 layouts featured in Vaporfield Glacier, here are the layouts:
Battle Line Communique Dogfight Espionage Express Lane Grinder Olsavik Village Spearhead Tundra Assault Western Waste
"We're really happy with the way these layouts play and hope all of you enjoy them as well. I was also really glad that SONY was cool with us doubling the number of layouts without increasing the price."
Dylan says that the APC's "are jam-packed with Yummy Gameplay Goodness!" He also says he should trademark that so he can say, "our new booster features YGG technology!"
He then gives us a "YGG" discription of the APC's.
Dylan knows that people are going to ask him about the name for the Booster Pack, and he says, "I found the fracture patterns of broken glass very similar to the crystalline structures of ice and snow - So there…"Broken Mirror""
"The exact date has yet to be confirmed, but the expansion will definitely come after the v1.3 patch which is due in "early April." Operation Broken Mirror will add a new level, the Vaporfield Glacier, as well as the Armored Personnel Carrier."
Well, we've known about V1.3 and the APC for a while, and Vaporfield Glacier was almost a given with all the speculations.
Well along with all of that, we know that it will be "£3.99 in the UK, with no word yet on a price in Euros or dollars.
