Hey readers and newcomers to the Video Game Spectrum. My name is Will, the site owner and webmaster of this video game news blog. I've been fortunate enough to recieve the support from the gaming audience through my benefactor, Pete Campbell. Now Pete runs a site called Kingdom Hearts Ultimania which is a Kingdom Hearts fan resource for all your things related to that franchise. They celebrated their 4th birthday as of Saturday, May 3, 2008. And with their birthday, they bring along a new entertainment feature to which I was proud to be apart of. The Kingdom Hearts Ultimania Podcast! Yes, you heard right, one of the top KH fansites have finally brought together a podcast for the KH community. It truly is something to check out and well worth your time!
Now let's roll with the updates for our site.
Assassins Creed PC Playthrough Up
As apart of our expanding media audience on YouTube, I, myself, have decided to undertake- doing playthroughs and walkthroughs for the gaming community. So far I have completed a couple of playthroughs for the channel, but I am currently now working on the PC Assassins Creed playthough on our vgspectrum Youtube channel. Check it out! Coming at the end of May will be our Mass Effect PC playthrough done by myself as well.
For those of you that have been following The Video Game Spectrum, you'll know that This Week in Gaming was once a recurring podcast in that we covered the latest gaming news and gave our take on them. It was a convenient way for listeners to keep up with the gaming industry in such a short amount of time.
Well now it has returned in podcast form, we've been using the name to track video game releases for the week of and don't worry that will still continue, as a replacement to the Untitled Gaming Podcast. So here it is, enjoy the first episode! What we're definitely going to do is shorten the podcast and lessen the topics because we went quite overboard for our first one.
What we discussed:
Introduction / Random Chat Coverage of NamcoBandai and Midway Press Events Mortal Kombat vs. DC Universe Announced Iron Man Demo Impressions from Zack Recap: PC Version of Mass Effect Will Get Bring Down the Sky DLC For Free Okami Wii Has IGN Watermark Unreal Tournament 3 360 Which one has the advantage to sell Grand Theft Auto IV, 360 or PS3? Grand Theft Auto IV Playthrough is Coming - Zack Assassins Creed Talk Wrap-Up
Zack and Will tackle the Resistance 2 trailer, talk about upcoming games such as Grand Theft Auto IV and Metal Gear Solid 4, and discuss the Youtube channel.
In the weekend lull, the Video Game Spectrum was working hard to secure some much appreciated partnerships. Our first affiliation comes from United Gaming Convention, which is run by Ragg, a very much so magical place where video games of all genres get coverage, news, reviews, previews, and more. Check his site out to see the latest in gaming today.
One notable feature I spotted out of his site was his extended video reviews that give a comprehensive look of the game's features and weighs in opinion about it. So with this, a deal was forged between the two sites, that beginning as of today, we, the VGS readers, will be able to see his video reviews on our site. Ragg is now our honorary staff member to the Video Game Spectrum, so we all await the great things to be seen from him.
If you haven't seen the announcement video from Zack, our Youtube video producer, you're probably missing out. Zack has outlined and pretty much stated the dates for his upcoming walkthroughs. One of his last and "big" announcements included a Super Smash Bros. Brawl playthrough that comes out today, March 24th. A couple of videos are up now on the Youtube channel, so check it out!
Also look forward to:
Super Mario Galaxy (Returning April 25th) Ninja Gaiden 2 (June 13th)
From Will's end of the spectrum, I have currently the playthrough of The Godfather. But what occurs after is going to be a surprise!
Our videos page has been in need of a renovation for quite a while and we finally got around to updating it. Now instead of seeing a bunch of links on a page, we have streamlined the YouTube experience by creating for each game, a video page that will work just like a playlist. And in that page, the playthrough for that game will be broken up by sections to make it as accessible for the viewer to follow through the game. All you have to do begin watching is to hover over the thumbnail of the video to get the description of the video, and click on it to get the video to appear to the big video embed to the left. Click play and indulge yourself in our video euphoria!
Also we've been asking around on YouTube through a recruitment video asking for other YouTube video makers to allow us to put their video game playthroughs on our site and some have answered our call. We now incorporate their playthroughs on our site and you may find them on our videos page. All the credit for the videos is given to them, I just put the videos on the site. If you're interested in promoting your videos or having us host your various Youtube video game playthroughs, contact us by sending a message on YouTube
Ever wondered what Jeff Gerstmann and the other Gamespot employees who left following his departure went? Well they're building a video gaming website called Giant Bomb which will include media, gaming news, and reviews. You can see the making of Giant Bomb in the video above, which includes Gerstmann and Davis, trying to set up their new office.
If you've been checking out our Youtube channel We've put up a call to all video makers for gaming playthoughs and walkthroughs out there on Youtube asking for them to contribute to our site and get your videos hosted on our site for promotion. All you have to do is message us stating you give us permission to allow us to use your videos on our site and specify what game you want us to put up (or if you give us permission to use all of your videos that'd be quite fine as well) and we'll work on your video page and get it up as soon as possible.
The only thing we ask in exchange is to link to your video page or our site: http://thevgs.net so you can tell your friends about this opportunity. Personally, I think this is a great way to compile and build up a list of games you've covered. All the credit will be given to you!
The legendary Dungeons and Dragons creator, Gary Gygax, has passed away at 69, leaving behind a legacy to videogamers. Anyone who has ever played a D&D game or even a roleplaying game, it would never have been inspired by without the foundations that Gygax built. He passed away on March 4th, 2008.
Without Gygax, the elements of our modern RPG as we know it would not have existed, these include - hit points, character classes, leveling, and countless others that were taken from the pen and paper to the actual computer/video games. Gygax may have been a inspiration to those industry veterans today like Bioware, Richard Garriot, and Harvey Smith.
A brand new edition of the Spectrum Radio Remix is finally here. We've asked our audience to nominate and pick the top Kingdom Hearts tracks and we have compiled a show to play them all.
In conjunction with Pete and Kingdom Hearts Ultimania, we have expanded our audience base and included them in the nomination process.
In this show, you have the opportunity to win a prize, a $25 Amazon gift voucher that is. Just answer the five trivia questions we ask on the show correctly and sent it to our e-mail at khucontest@gmail.com for the eligibility to be in a drawing to win the prize.
Also, we have fun video game covers done exclusively by Mayor as well as a guest appearance by Pete himself.
If you liked this show, give us a comment (register to post a comment) and tell us what video game music we should play for the next Spectrum Radio Remix!
The Game Developers Conference, or properly dubbed as GDC, is over. Its the weekend but you were seeing alot of GDC news still being posted. Why is that? Our philospohy is that we expanded our main page to 10 news articles, the 10 newest articles for that day would remain on the main page until the next day where 10 new articles would be posted. Of course, I underestimated GDC and it ended up that I had a whole shitload of articles in stockpile and the only way was to extend it to the weekend. And even for the weekend, I still have articles left for the weekday.
Enough of that, though, we will be returning to pre-GDC status soon, 7 news articles per page most likely on Tuesday. Feel free to respond to our poll below.
And our additional update is the addition of 10 new game guides for you.
